Awakening is when you suddenly (or gradually) feel the fog lifted and you have all these realisations or epiphanies about the insanity of world we live in, about our true nature of being as infinite souls, about the reason you were born into this body/lifetime/family and your souls contract (or mission). There is a feeling of ‘I can’t go back’ to the old way of being in the world. You feel like no matter what you have to follow the spiritual path and the journey you were born to complete – your soul’s goal. There is a feeling of spiritual guidance. You receive what you need when you need it (abundance) when you are tuned in and tapped on to your mission. You receive signs from the universe – it might be number sequences like 111, spirit animals or people/books/teachings that come into your life just when you need it. You realise that everything (including the pain you have suffered) has happened for a reason and it is part of why you came here and the lessons you wanted to learn. You may use tools such as Tarot, angel cards, divination or meditation as a way of directly connecting your guides and receiving insight or help along the way.

Ascension is part two of the process. Once you are on the spiritual path you want to learn everything that was once unseen or distorted as quickly as possible. You feel like ‘how could I have not seen this before’ and you want to get cracking on your calling. But to ascend you not only need to follow the authentic career path that is your calling (which means stripping bare and letting go of what you blindly followed and tuning into your intuition and passions, as well as getting rid of the limiting beliefs and fears that are holding you back), you also have to becomethe authentic person you were born to be. You have to be the love and light, be the compassion and forgiveness and be the peace and healing energy of the spiritual masters (we call them Ascendant Masters because they have mastered being love in the world). It is not an easy path to walk as we let go of old ways of being and forgive parts of ourselves (and others) that no longer serve us. We must illuminate the shadow and go places deep within ourselves to heal before we can ascend.

This is why I created A Course in Lightwork – for Lightworkers who have awakened and who want to raise their vibration and way of being in the world as fast as possible. I know when I awakened (after being interested in spirituality my whole life) I wanted to learn, be and ascend as fast as possible: I felt like I had wasted so much time in the clouds – even though in my heart I knew I had awoken at the perfect time: exactly when it was in my soul’s contract. I didn’t want to just preach love and light, I wanted to become love and light. And I am not there yet, everyday and every moment is my spiritual practice. I make mistakes, I think wrong thoughts, I take wrong actions, I practice low energies but I am catching myself more and more when this happens and I am doing it less and less. I forgive myself and others faster and I am learning to speak my truth without fear. The more I practice the more my vibration raises, the less I think judgemental thoughts, the more I feel compassion and understanding for others, the more aligned actions I take and I speak from a place of love.

So what happens when one partner awakens first?

What happens when you want to spend all your time with other awakened spiritual beings (thus raising your own vibration) and your partner has not yet awakened? I believe your relationships are your first spiritual practice. I believe we can get into a trap of thinking we are higher than our partner – and that they are lower. Resentment may surface as they are struggling with the fact that you have found your purpose, they may want the old you back (and try to get it back by attempting to bring your vibe down or engage you in old patterns), and you may wish for a greener pasture. We hear stories of twin flames and soul mates and we start to think, wouldn’t it be nice if my partner was on the same spiritual journey that I am on? But just as we can forgive and love our parents/family unconditionally for where they are at, we can forgive and love our partners unconditionally for where they are at on their journey. It is called compassion and is the essence of the teachings of one of the biggest Lightworkers in history, the Dalai Lama.  Most of us have been there in those dark clouds and it can be a lonely place to be. I certainly remember the feeling of needing to control everything because I didn’t Trust in the Universe.

If there is a misalignment in communicating with each other I would recommend seeking out a counsellor or third party so you can speak your truth to each other without the message being distorted. In my own experience, I ended the relationship because resentment was building and boundaries of how you treat someone you love were being crossed, and in doing so, I realised that I had let it get it to this stage, by not speaking my truth and by being passive aggressive. I realised I had fallen into the trap of thinking I was higher and that he was lower, and that I was perfect (not contributing in any way to the breakdown of the relationship) and he was the one at fault. Luckily because we have children (and they choose us as parents) we decided to get relationship counselling and we started to reestablish the boundaries that had broken-down, I started to speak up instead of letting my needs fester and erupt and we decided to love each other for where we are at without judgement or jealousy. He is now (finally) supporting me on my journey as I change the way I am in the world and as I help other Lightworkers who have awakened to Shine and Impact. He has heard the message that ‘I can’t go back’ to the old way of being in the world.

No matter where anyone is at on their journey, we are all souls and we are all equal. One of the biggest Lightworkers in history Jesus demonstrated this when he washed the feet of his disciples. Not everyone will want to do  the work you want to do when you are ready to do it… does that mean you should love them any less? No. Does that mean you should wait until they are ready to shine your own light? Hell no! Get moving on your journey, allow them to be where ever they are at, and you will attract beautiful beings into your life. Sometimes your twin flame will not be a soul mate partner, it may a friend or another family member who will walk the spiritual path with you at the same time.

Love everyone for where they are at unconditionally. Don’t look down on them. Serve and inspire. Become the person you need to become to change the world. Gandhi (another Lightworker) said it best when he said: “We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.”
